HealthWise Article - Norman Transcript - January 2000 Wellness In Norman (WIN) is a non profit corporation committed to improving the health and well being of the Norman community. With a mission to promote health as a state of physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual well being, WIN provides community education through classes, seminars, lectures and retreats. Founder, Cindy Merrick, reports that WIN will sponsor an annual speaker with national recognition. Dr. Wayne Dyer presented a lecture in 2001 and Marianne Williamson was scheduled to appear in February. Due to Williamson's cancellation, efforts are now being made to schedule another speaker. Wellness In Norman offers classes that facilitive and maintain health lifestyles. WellnessInNorman.com is a web page that currently provides a community directory that lists many alternative health care providers. Merrick, a local physical therapist of Therapy In Motion, wanted to create a central location on one web page so individuals could have easy access to health related activities in Norman. Headings such as massage, yoga, pilates, fitness classes and support groups are found on the web page. Links are provided to Norman Regional Hospital, YMCA, OU Huston Huffman Center and The City of Norman. Beginning in April, a variety of evening classes will be offered by WIN. A facility is currently being constructed at Therapy In Motion, 2475 Boardwalk, for this purpose. A comprehensive Lifestyle Assessment will soon be available on the web page. Defining health as an active processs, WIN seeks to provide opportunities to achieve balance of body, mind and spirit and encourages the spirit of cooperation for and among the healing arts.
